The Clan/Sept HistoryKennedy is the Anglicisation of the Gaelic Ó Cinnéide, meaning 'ugly-headed'. The clan homeland was near Killaloe in Co. Tipperary, and was part of the Dál gCais tribal grouping. The clan claims descent from a nephew of Brian Boru, King of Ireland. The name is the sixteenth most numerous in Ireland, and is strongest in counties Tipperary in the south and Roscommon in the west. The most famous Kennedy is of course John F. Kennedy, who was thirty fifth president of the USA.
