The Clan HistoryThe name derives from the Barony of Dalrymple, Ayrshire. James Dalrymple of Stair (1619-1695) was created Viscount of Stair by King William in 1690. His third son, Hew Dalrymple (1652-1737), Lord North Berwick, was created a baronet on Nova Scotia in 1698. His second son, Sir Robert Dalrymple of Castleton (d.1734) was a member of the Faculty of Advocates.
